CSA

What is a CSA?

Community Supported Agriculture is a way for consumers to buy local foods from a farm by entering into a contract with the farmer. Members pay for their share in advance. By investing in the farm at the start of the growing season, members provide cash flow to the farm when it is most needed to buy seeds, fertilizer, supplies, etc. The members benefit by receiving local, fresh, healthy food delivered once a week. Because farming is unpredictable, CSA members share in the bounty as well as the potential for a crop failure.

Why Our CSA?

Our CSA runs for 24 weeks generally from May through October. Each weekly share includes 8-12 freshly harvested items. Though we don't offer fully customized shares, we willl pack your bag with consideration to food allergies or family preferences. Read more about our 'opt-out' program under Frequently Asked Questions below. One of the things that is unique about our program is that we deliver directly to your home or work place. Currently we make deliveries on Fridays to State College, Bellefonte, Altoona,Lock Haven and surrounding areas. The cost of a share for 2017 is $600.

If you like to cook or would like to add more healthy options to your diet, our CSA is a great opportunity to experience the whole range of vegetables that can be grown in our temperate zone. We provide recipes for what to do with the veggies you receive each week. Our members must enjoy the experience of eating their way through the growing season because we have over 90% membership renewal.

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s in a share?

We offer one share size that provides enough for four people (two adults and two children) to have several servings throughout the week. Typically you receive 8 to 12 different items each week. Some members with smaller families or who cook less often, decide to 'share a share' with a friend or neighbor. Because of the unpredictable spring weather in our area you may find that shares have a little less in the beginning of the season. As the harvests increase later, we more than make up for this.

What about substitutions?

The list of items to be included in the share is emailed as early in the week as possible. If there is something on the list you won't use or your family doesn't like, you can 'opt-out' from receiving it in your delivery. To 'opt-out' simply reply to the email and suggest a replacement if you like. Each member will be allowed to 'opt-out' with replacement four times during the season. If you have a food allergy or a particular vegetable you will not eat, we will do our best to find a substitution. This will be our choice so you may end up with more tomatoes or carrots, but it will be produce that you can eat. We welcome questions, comments and will try our best to accommodate.

What happens to your share when you go on vacation?

Communication is the key here. If you give us enough notice we can deliver your share to a friend or neighbor. We’ll do our best to work with you.

What is the payment schedule?

  • Shares are sold on a first come first serve basis until we are sold out.

  •  We require a $50.00 non-refundable deposit to reserve your share. Payment in full is due by April 1st.

  • If your family finances require an extended payment plan, please contact us for options.

  • If we haven’t filled our membership quota you are welcome to contact us any time during the season.

What about purchasing extra items?

From time to time the season will provide items you may wish to purchase extra for canning or freezing. We'll let you know by email what's available. Let us know what you’d like and it will be included in your delivery along with an invoice.
